Self-Build Projects

NuTech Renewables can provide renewable energy solutions for all Self Build situations.  These range from a basic stand alone solar panel or heat recovery ventilation system, right up to a complete intergrated system giving you various levels of  renewable energy intergration, with the ultimate result of a Zero Carbon Home.

What makes NuTech Renewables unique in this area is its ability to intergrating renewables using the IRES controller to combine and optimise the full renewable energy package.

NuTech Renewables provide a ranking system of our renewable energy heating packages. These start at a basic Bronze 1 Star System up to a NuTech Platinum 4 Star System; the higher the ranking the more integrated the renewable energy technologies.

Below you will find examples of self Build projects which have used these heating packages.

 NuTech Zero Carbon House

 Typical Ber Ratings:  A 1 / Code Level 6

Quick Summary

Zero Energy House is a general term applied to a house that consumes no carbon and emits no carbon to the atmosphere. A house may be considered to be a zero energy house if 100 per cent of the energy it consumes comes from a renewable source.

Zero energy houses will adopt a variety  of different types and combinations of low energy and renewable energy technologies depending on: climate, location, building design, personal preferences, availability and their cost

This project is currently under construction and will feature the following  intergrated renewable energy technologies

NuTech Passive House

Typical Ber Ratings:      A2 / Code level 5

  Quick Summary

The NuTech Passive Solar House system has the following features

It has reasonably low U-Values for all of the fabric items   It is tested to achieve less than 1.0 ACH at 50 Pa

It integrates the energy from the solar array into the HRV system.  It integrates energy from the back-up boiler (internal wood pellet or heat pump) into the HRV system

There is also a facility to have filtered recirculated air within the system thereby allowing 5 kW to 10 kW of heat to be distributed around the house, based on the size of house.

This greatly improves the Thermal Response of the back-up heating system should it be required. The system is designed to meet the requirements of the Draft Part F of the Irish Building Regulations.

A higher percentage of the domestic hot water will be achieved by this system than with the smaller array on the normal Passive House because there is twice the area of solar collector.

 Platinum 4 Star System

Integrated Renewable Energy Boiler, Wood pellet Boiler, Air Source Heat Pump

Typical Ber Ratings:    A2 / Code level 5

  Quick Summary

Full Project Details and Pictures will follow shortly

System supplies solar hot water to the domestic hot water system, solar heated air and heated air to the building through a heat recovery ventilation system

System doubles energy yield from solar panels

Solar panels work to their maximum potential

System maximises the solar yield by heating the air supplied to the house during periods with low level solar irradiation or when there is no requirement to heat the water

In winter and autumn solar panels and boiler heat the cylinder and house

Boiler is the primary heating system in winter, with solar providing secondary energy when available

Client Testimonial

"The solar panels help the boiler alot.  The panels heat the water to 20 or 30 degrees, and then the boiler tops it up.  Our new house is about twice the size of the old house, but we are not paying any more on the heating bills for our new home."

Gold 3 Star System

Solar Assisted Air Heating with integrated HRV and solar hot water

  Typical Ber Ratings:

Quick Summary

This system incorporates the same elements of the Silver 2 Star System of solar hot water and ventilation with integrated HRV

In addition to this a connection is made from the main boiler to the ventilation system, so the air being distributed throughout the home is heated by the boiler, creating an air heating system

Using an Air Heating System is more efficient than traditional radiators as distribution of heat is more effective and the boiler running temperature can be reduced

In low energy houses radiators may not be necessary and in large air tight houses only some small radiators may be required in large living spaces or wet rooms (bathroom / utility)

 Silver 2 Star System

Solar Hot Water and Ventilation System with integrated HR

 Typical Ber Ratings:

Quick Summary

In addition to this a connection is made from the solar collectors to the ventilation system, so solar energy is being delivered not only to your hot water but also into your home

This will reduce the amount of contribution required by your main boiler towards your home’s space heating even further

Bronze 1 Star System

Solar Hot Water

 Quick Summary

Provides up to 70% of your annual hot water requirement

Using Thermomax Evacuated Tubes solar energy is collected and converted into heat energy for your hot water

In winter and autumn solar panels pre-heat the cylinder with any available sunlight (energy)

The boiler does not have to work as hard to heat water in cylinder

 Saves Energy = Saves Money

System is suited for both new and existing builds

Client Testimonial

I am delighted with the whole system, your company used skilled and qualified engineers for the complete process, and the best quality products in the market.  This has resulted in a very high quality installation which was completed cleanly and without any inconvenience. Your engineers were very helpful and provided a full explanation of the operation of the system once they had completed the installation. I am monitoring the performance of the system and so far all indications are that the potential financial returns indicated will be forthcoming. I will have no hesitation in recommending a solar system installed by NuTech Renewables, because choosing you was certainly the right decision

Bronze 1 Star System :

Quick Summary

Heat Recovery Ventilation recovers heat that is normally lost through your walls, roof, floors and windows, and re-circulates this heat energy back into your property with fresh air from outside.

By recovering heat and putting it back into the property the amount of additional heating required by your main boiler is reduced and so annual space heating costs are reduced.

The Heat Recovery Ventilation system provides controlled ventilation to part F of the Building Regulations

The system is suited for new builds and existing builds that meet an air leakage rate of rate of < 0.5 ACH at normal atmospheric pressure (or 10 Air Changes Hourly at a pressure of 50 Pascal)

The HRV unit is usually stored in the roof space of the building with ducting running from the unit and dropping into air valves at ceiling level into each of the chosen rooms
