Mitsubishi Ecodan Heat Pumps
Heat pumps offer a low carbon alternative to the traditional boiler. NuTech are approved installers of the Mitsubishi Ecodan Heat Pump, which offers a reduction on your heating bills

Air Source Heat Pump or Ground Source Heat Pump ?

Many have heard of ground source heat pumps and the high efficiency levels they can offer, but few realise that air source heat pumps can also offer significantly higher levels of efficiency when compared to traditional methods of heating our homes. Air source heat pumps are much easier to install than ground source so they are more suitable for a wide variety of properties from flats to detached houses.

Furthermore the Ecodan Heat Pump has been designed to be much quieter than many other heat pumps, and the system is designed to be as 'plug and play' as possible. This means that the  Ecodan air source heat pump system consists of an external box which is fitted to your outside wall.  It harvests renewable, low grade energy from the outdoor air and upgrades this into useful heat to supply a home with hot water and heating.

How the Ecodan Heat Pump Works

The Ecodan range of air source heat pump systems have been developed by Mitsubishi Electric specifically for the UK and Irish markets, and bring advanced, inverter-driven technology refined in the commercial heating sector to your home. By utilizing this  technology the Ecodan Heat Pump only consumes the exact amount of energy needed to match heating demand at any given time For every 1kW of electricity fed into Ecodan, you will get at least 3kW of heating energy. It can work efficiently all year round and has been tested to work in outdoor temperatures as low as -15ºC.

Furthermore the technology inside the heat pump is similar to any domestic refrigerator, which uses a vapour compression cycle. The main components in the heat pump are the compressor, the expansion valve and two heat exchangers (an evaporator and a condenser

  • Refrigerant in the evaporator is colder than the heat source.  This causes the heat to move from the heat source (in this case the outside air) to the refrigerant, which then evaporates.
  • This vapour moves to the compressor and reaches a higher temperature and pressure.
  • The hot vapour now enters the condenser and gives off heat as it condenses.
  • The refrigerant then moves to the expansion valve; drops in temperature and pressure; and then returns to the evaporator.

  Installation

The Ecodan heat pump is a self contained unit which only requires water and electric connections. Water pipe size is 22mm and electrical feed required is 16 amp / "B" type MCB. The unit must be sighted   outdoors either on a wall bracket or floor mounted. These units can be fitted by electricians, plumbers, heating engineers and air conditioning engineers. Furthermore, Ecodan is supplied as a sealed system so it does not have to meet the new  uk F-Gas Regulations. As a result the developer does not have to find specialist refrigerant handlers to install the equipment. Ecodan is straightforward to install

Product Benefits

Reduce your Heating Costs

Ecodan will help reduce a properties carbon footprint (*) and can lead to lower energy bills to help combat fuel poverty.* In independent tests carried out by the Building Research Establishment, BRE, Ecodan was found to reduce emissions by 50% and running costs by 30% in comparison to a modern gas boiler

Easy To Install
  • Ecodan can immediately help a property achieve Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes and helps lower household running costs
  • No gas supply, flues or ventilation required
  • No need for groundwork or external pump
  •  Maintenance on an Ecodan system is easier than gas as well, and with a professionally maintained Ecodan heat pump unit offering an average lifespan of 15 – 20 years, you'll save on annual maintenance costs too

The European Eco-label also known as "the Flower" due to its flower logo denotes products and services with superior environmental performance. Products bearing the label are certified to meet EU-wide environmental criteria, and compliance is independently verified by an approved body. The Eco-label scheme is voluntary and represents products with class leading environmental performance. It is available for many consumer and commercial product groups and now includes heat pumps. The Ecodan range of products met this criteria in November 2009.

Why Chose NuTech Renewables Ltd Heat Pumps

 1: Grant Funding Currently Available

In the Republic of Ireland the Ecodan Heat pump qualifies for a grant of €2000 for existing homeowners to install an air source heat pump.

2: Better alternative to an Oil or Gas Boiler Installation

Instead of replacing oil with a gas or condesning boiler, you can install an Ecodan Heat Pump, which will not leave your household vulnerable to escalating prices and importation of gas.  Furthermore ." Ecodan can cut CO2 emissions by half and reduce running costs by at least 30% over a gas boiler. Even in temperatures as low as -20ºC, Ecodan can extract energy from the outside air to meet a home's heating and hot water needs. It requires just a small amount of electricity – no oil or gas – and takes renewable energy from the air to deliver three or four times more heating energy than the electricity consumed.

3: Ecodan Heat pump Designed to mett your requirements

In new builds NuTech can design and estimate from drawings the heating demand of the proposed building, so to implement an appropriate size of Ecodan heat pump to the build. We can also design and size an underfloor or aluminium radiator system to use with the heat pump.

In existing builds where extensive refurbishment work is being done we will treat this property like a new build and design the heating system from new. While in an existing house where the occupants want to add in the technology we can integrate the heat pump to the existing heating system, with minimal disruption.

4. Ecodan Helps to Achieve the Code for Sustainable Homes

Introduced in 2006, The Code for Sustainable Homes is part of the growing body of legislation aimed at reducing CO2 emissions from homes,(i.e the quater of the uks co2 emissions which are a direct result of heating, lighting and running applicances in our homes.) Thus designers, builders and installers increasingly need to utilise new and advanced technologies to cut CO2 emissions and make better use of energy required to heat our homes. The Ecodan Heat pump can be used to reduce to help achieve various levels of the code, for example  Code Level 3 CO2 Emission Reductions can be achieved by the deployment of Ecodan advanced heating technology, in conjunction with notional energy saving methods such as improved thermal insulation.
