Explanation of Underfloor Heating Systems

Underfloor heating (ufh) is widely installed throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland, for both new builds and retro-fitting existing property.

 How it Works

With an underfloor heating system, the heating of the room is from the floor up.  In a traditional central heating system, the room is heated via radiators, with the air in the room being heated.

Underfloor heating uses water heated to a lower temperature than conventional water central heating .This is achieved by mixing water in the underfloor pipe with hot water from a boiler.  This water is then passed to a manifold for distribution to the various zones.

Theat source is located under the floor and the area to be heated is separated into separate zones (normally one zone per room) and each zone is heated and controlled independently.

 Combination with Other Systems

Due to the lower operating temperature, Underfloor heating is ideal for use with a high efficiency condensing boilers, and can also be combined with heat pumps, heat recovery ventilation systems, or solar panels
