NuTech provide a pure technical energy consultancy service without supplying any equipment whatever. Typically NuTech have researched and developed products and/or methods of building for companies, such as: 

• Low Energy House designs using special products developed by a particular company

•  Effectiveness of particular products and monitoring performance of developments

• System testing and improvements to product 

NuTech have carried out such consultancy for companies such as

• ESB (the Irish Electric Utility),

• CRH, COFORD (the Irish Forestry Service),

•    ITFMA (the Irish Timber Frame Manufacturers Association),

• Hytherm Insulation, etc

 2.      Consultancy and Exemplar Projects

NuTech have carried out consultancy and become involved in the build process by supplying specially designed equipment developed by NuTech for Low Energy / Low CO2 houses.

 Previous clients have included:

 Wicklow County Council

Objective: To arrive at a Low Energy House design using locally sourced timber frame suppliers.

 This house was designed to be an A3 (similar to Code Level 4) house under the Irish BER system. It had a fully integrated NuTech Solar Heating, Hot Water andHRV system with a Wood Pellet stove as the back-up energy supply system.

10 of these houses were built and have been monitored for temperature regime and energy use.

Century Homes Formula 1 House Project.

Objective: The main objective of this project was to arrive at a Low Energy / Low CO2 House utilising their products to the maximum.

 4 test houses were built incorporating the NuTech Solar Heating, Hot Water and HRV system with a Wood Pellet stove as the back-up energy supply system. NuTech carried out blower door testing with Infra Red imaging to show weak spots in the houses.

 Current Project

 Fingal County Council

 In the process of building 35 houses with Fingal County Council. One of these houses achieves an A2 rating (equivalent to a Code Level 5 rating for energy use and CO2 emissions) and features the NuTech Integrated Solar Heating, Hot Water and HRV system.

 The other 34 houses have similar systems and achieve an A3 rating - they are not as well insulated and do not have as large a solar array as the A2 type house.

 3.      Supply of Individual Technologies

NuTech is also involved in the supply of individual technologies for a variety of clients. Typically these are as follows:

 o       Solar Water Heating systems. These are supplied to Builders of developer type houses and to both once-off new housing and also into the retro-fit market

o       Heat Recovery Ventilation systems for both the new once-off house and also the retro-fit market

o       Air to Water heat Pump systems for the new and retro-fit markets

o       Solar Ventilation and Hot water systems. These are similar to the award winning Clever Homes 60-house project which was completed in Northern Ireland

 4.      Design, Supply, Install, Commission and Maintenance of Integrated Systems

Integrated Solar Heating,Hot Water and HRV systems are the most common type of systems that are sold by NuTech.

This system is specially designed for use in Low Energy housing and to achieve a designed Energy rating or desired Code Level as defined in the Code for Sustainable Homes. Nutech has been involved in the design of systems for Code levels 4, 5 and 6.

These systems are designed for Housing Association houses, developer type houses, the once-off house market and Apartments.

These houses, because of the specially designed systems by NuTech, have a ‘no smell’ clothes drying facility built-in (no electrical clothes drying machine is required). They also will tend to reduce the levels of allergens – particularly dust mites - by way of the HRV system design.

5.      The NuTech Passive Solar House

NuTech has developed this Passive Solar House technique with a number of suppliers of both Timber Frame and Block systems.

NuTech has designed the full heating, hot water andHRV system for this type of house. The overall energy used in this type of house for space and water heating rivals that of a house designed to the requirements of the PassivHaus Institute.

Curiously the PassivHaus only achieves a Code Level 4 for the Energy Use and CO2 emissions because it does not necessarily involve the use of Renewables.

The NuTech Passive Solar House can achieve a Code Level 5 rating because it does utilise renewable energy in a very efficient way. Also the NuTech Passive Solar House will have a substantially lower capital cost than a PassivHaus designed to achieve the same rating as the NuTech Passive Solar House.
