  Bill Quigley,  Joint Managing Director

Bill Quigley is a Civil Engineering graduate of University College, Dublin. He has practised in many fields of engineering including structures, material science and for the past 30 years in the area of Low Energy Housing. He was Projects Manager for CRH plc and during this period he studied the effects on energy use in housing of both thermally massive and thermally lightweight construction.

On leaving CRH in 1988 he has, with his colleague Mark Forkin, studied the benefits of utilising both passive and active solar heating systems in well insulated houses with a balanced thermal capacity.

He is, with Mark Forkin, the co-inventor of the Sunwarm Air Solar Collector and has been involved over the years in building and monitoring a large number of Passive Solar Houses. He has acted as Project Director on a number of Energy Demonstration Projects which were carried out for the Energy Directorate of the European Commission. These projects featured some of the most innovative technologies for low energy housing and he has given many lectures on the success of these projects at EU conferences throughout Europe. He has also represented the European Commission on study tours to both Brazil and Japan.

More recently, he has been involved in developing the NuTech Passive Solar House Technology which has been featured in a large number of houses throughout Ireland - many of which were included in SEI’s House of Tomorrow Programme. He has, most recently, carried out studies to compare the NuTech Passive Solar House with the German designed PassivHaus system. This study has shown that the NuTech Passive Solar House can yield the same Energy Use results as a PassivHaus but at a lower build cost.
